USA and UK based company iiGrowth and the Ventspils High Technology Park (VHTP) are partnering to bring international solutions to the Latvian market. Together, we are scanning the globe for world class business partners for Latvian enterprises. The purpose of this scan is to identify new business solutions in science and research, defense, and creating new innovation and competency centers in Latvia.
In August and September 2009 the new enterprises from the Business Incubator of the foundation “Ventspils High Technology Park” (VHTP) in Ventspils and Talsi received support in amount of 80,000 LVL. The interest was great, and the BI was joined by several new companies.
By signing an agreement with the Ministry for Regional Development and Local Governments, the foundation „Ventspils High Technology Park” (VHTP) today started the implementation of the project „The Cooperation between Ventspils and Tartu in Space Technology Research and Training”. The project will be implemented in partnership with Ventspils University College, Tartu University and Tartu Observatory.
In 30 July 2009 the foundation „Ventspils High Technology Park” (VHTP) signed an agreement with the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia on providing business incubation services in Ventspils and Talsi from the year 2009 to 2014.
Latvia signed a cooperation agreement with the European Space Agency on 24 July, a step that could see the country becoming a fully paid up member of the agency in the next few years. The agreement marks the beginning of Latvia’s participation in ESA projects, although no funds have been exchanged at this stage.
At the beginning of July the researcher of Ventspils International Radioastronomy Centre (VIRAC) Kārlis Zālīte and teleresearch specialists Inese Jaunzeme, Gundars Korāts, experts Andis Dembovskis and Karīna Krinkele together with Gatis Gaigals from Engineering Research Centre of Ventspils University College participated in the field practice of satellite construction in Germany.
On 9 and 10 June this year the specialists from Ventspils High Technology Park together with German experts and recruited Latvian architects worked on a project of satellite-technology-relevant infrastructure in the Technology Park.
A week before the Midsummer Day in Paris was organized one of the largest exhibitions of aerospace technologies – Le Bourge 2009. This week-long event was dedicated to everything that takes off and lands on the earth for civil and military purposes.

More than 20 pupils from secondary schools in Ventspils participated in the excursion to technology-consuming companies, which was organized by Ventspils High Technology Park (VHTP). They visited Hanza electronics production unit in Ogre, the glass fibre manufacturing plant in Valmiera and the observatory in Ramkalni.
The company SIA „SensoTech” of the VHTP Business Incubator has developed a new innovative baby monitoring device B-phone that will help new parents to ensure their baby’s safety.
On Thursday, 2 April 2009, Ventspils High Technology Park together with Ventspils Pupil Creativity House organized in Ventspils University College an activity day for robotics hobby group. The aim of this day was to introduce the sponsors of the hobby group, the representatives from the municipality and the youth with tasks that are accomplished until now, as well as with the intended activities for development of technical creativity in Ventspils.
On Friday, 20 March, in the Astronomy Institute of the University of Latvia the students and lecturers who are involved in development of first Latvian satellite Venta-1 had a meeting with the chief engineer of the project, professor of the University of Bremen Indulis Kalnins.
The foundation „Ventspils High Technology Park” (VHTP) in collaboration with companies that operate in the Technology Park and the Business Incubator in Ventspils has developed brief information or profiles of the companies, including description of their products and services.
Specialists from Ventspils High Technology Park (VHTP) visited Bremen to acquaint themselves with production and research infrastructure of German partners, i.e., OHB System AG production units for satellite system integration and electronic products and testing laboratories of Center of Applied Space Technology and Microgravity (ZARM).
SensoTech Ltd., a company of Business Incubator of VHTP, is one of 16 companies that received financing from LIAA (Investment and Development Agency of Latvia) pre-seed support mechanism.
2009. On 13 February, 2009, in Ventspils High Technology Park was held the first meeting of Ventspils Technology Development Board (VTD Board).
Audiogids Ltd., a company of Business Incubator of Ventspils High Technology Park, has developed an export-capable product: an audioguide for in-door use mTour Museum. It is a professional software that is based on iPod Touch (Apple) touch-sensitive device and offers audio guide services. A dedicated demo version of this new product is developed for testing purposes.
2009. On 13 February, 2009, Dana Reizniece, member of the board of Ventspils High Technology Park (VHTP), Janis Vucans, principal of Ventspils University College (VUC), and Evita Kirilova, deputy director of secretariat for Education Innovation Fund (IIF), signed a contract on allocating a scholarship to students from Ventspils University College Bachelor study programme „Electronics“.
On 4 February I. Eglajs, chairman of the board of Ventspils High Technology Park (VHTP), signed a contract with the Society Integration Foundation on implementation of the project „Space Technologies – Opportunity for Education and Economic Development”. The project is supported by a grant from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA Financial Mechanism and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism.
Under the guidance of grandmaster in chess Dana Reizniece, there in Ventspils High Technology Park is being built the first small satellite in Latvia. It is an attempt to acquire a unique competence in space technologies. In the telecast “Latvija var!” (Latvia can!) on the TV channel LTV1 Dana Reizniece tells of what she has learned from chess and what can we all learn from the crisis.
French WEB solution company ADIPSO plans to start its activities in Latvia (in Riga or Ventspils) at the beginning of the year 2009, therefore it is currently headhunting for XHTML/CSS programmers and WEB designers.
In anuary 2009 was concluded an agreement between Ventspils High Technology Park (VHTP) and SIA „SkyCAM” on starting the latter's activities in the Business Incubator of VHTP.
The following three years the company can receive the services of the Business Incubator – premises, office equipment, secretarial services and consultations.
For support of new entrepreneurs, on 9 December 2007, the University of Liepāja (LiepU) and Ventspils High Technology Park (VHTP) established SIA „Kurzemes Biznesa inkubators” (Business Incubator of Kurzeme). The aim of the Business Incubator is to facilitate formation and development of competitive and innovative businesses in the region and to ensure them the necessary business environment, including infrastructure, consultative services and cooperation networks.
